In fact, Doring (2014), in a review of 50 academic papers on sexting, noted that 66% of the articles framed sexting as a risky, unhealthy behavior. Many of those articles focused on the relationship between sexting and risky sexual behaviors, but a systematic examination and synthesis of that literature was beyond the scope of her review.Research sexting laws. In 2011, a new law that is supposed to take effect will require any person, including a juvenile, age 10 or over, who is found guilty of sending pornography to register as a sex offender for a minimum of 15 years.Research by American psychologist Andrew Smiler found various causes that attribute to sexting: to demonstrate commitment in a relationship, to impress friends, to harass or bully, or as a dare.
